Autumn Time : Recently the i weekend newspaper listed a wide range of ways/activities to pep one's life in the season of falling leaves (and temperatures ! ) ; here is a selection of these tips :

Seasonal Recipes - apart from Pumpkin Pie, there are less flamboyant foods such as root vegetables, eg parsnips, beetroot, turnips ( especially swedes being very good value ) , carrots, celeriac, butternut squash with sage , all of which are recommended by a clinical nutritionist , Dr Remus Geiga, as nutrient rich, supportive of gut health , and a boost to the immune system, providing a balance of complex carbs, fibre and antioxidants.

Spice up your Smoothies : add cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger to give them an autumnal warmth, ( apart from the health benefits - eg cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar ; and ginger for digestion.

Vitamin D supplement as there is less daylight with shortening days.

Socks in Bed ! - Dr Deborah Lee reports that research shows it is associated with getting off to sleep faster, fewer night time awakenings, better quality sleep - diversion of blood to the feet lowers core body temperature needed for getting off to sleep.

Eat More Soup : Dr Lee also recommends soup with seasonal veg, lentils, chickpeas, garlic, herbs and spices - high in fibre and leaving you feeling full for longer.

Upgrade your Shower : while washing your face massage your ears ( stimulates the Vagus nerve, promoting relaxation and stress reduction ), tap your chest to stimulate the thymus gland boosting immunity, massage whole body with shower gel for muscular relaxation.

Habit Stacking : If you want to incorporate a new daily habit, combine it with another that you already enjoy or find easy.

Layer your Bedding : autumnal mix of temperatures might be uncomfortable, so swap duvets for different weights or use a mixture of light blankets, bed covers.

Vitamin B12 Mood Boost : necessary for production of serotonin , enhancing mood and reducing fatigue ; take a supplement if you don't eat much in the way of animal products.

Autumn Leaves - enjoy the change of colours, in all their variety.

Happy Autumn to you all.
